Bonnie Vega looks at the causes and consequences of the Mexican-American War. The US annexation of Texas led to the nearly two-year war, which resulted in the nation’s expansion.  Presented in cooperation with the St. Louis Community College Continuing Education Department. Classes are free to the public, but reservations are required. Call St. Louis Community College at (314) 984-7777 to make a reservation.

Mark J. Wagner of Southern Illinois University–Carbondale will discuss how in 2017 SIUC archaeologists located the previously unknown remains of Lewis and Clark’s Fort Kaskaskia (1803–1807). Additional investigations help tell the story of the long-lost fort that played a pivotal role in the early history of the Lewis and Clark expedition. Presented with the Mound City Chapter of the Missouri Archaeological Society

University of Missouri, Columbia. Each year, nearly half a million students nationwide—grades 6 to 12—participate in this innovative educational program. ​They conduct extensive research on a historical subject that they choose and present findings their way by creating documentaries, exhibits, papers, performances or websites. â€‹Top winners in each category earn the opportunity to serve as Missouri delegates to the National History Day Contest in College Park, Maryland in June.
